Poster 1 = Maqbool Fida Husain

I chose to make my poster for Maqbool Fida Husain because he was one of the first artists of India to challenge the perception of Hindu gods and goddesses. Husain depicted the Hindu Gods in the nude which made his art highly controversial as well as uniquely coveted.  Due to the critisim his of his art along with legal battles Husain ultimately exiled himself from India. He went on to be the highest paid Indian artist in the world and his paintings fetch millions of dollars at auction. Husain lived a full and interesting life, he once a member of Rajya Sabha and had been decorated with India’s second highest award Padma Vibhushan. Husain’s art is dramatic and diverse. I had the pleasure of personally viewing his art at the San Jose Art Museum as part of a collection for “Roots in the Air, Branches Below” which show cases Modern Art of India       The four images under the text are clips of his actual work, they are some of my favorite. The horse at the bottom is my own play-off of his work.
